Changes and Good Things

I am far from a positive person but here are some good things from this week.

1) Miller said bye bye and waved at the same time.
2) Miller said shoe when shown his shoe and points to his feet now to put them on.
3) I saw a full rainbow the other morning with all colors clearly present.
4) I got a Coke when I clearly wanted a Dt. Coke out of the machine but a co-worker was willing to swap me a fresh dollar for the Coke so I could try another machine.
5) I got a new boss (not sure how this will play out but thinking positive thoughts).
6) I was able to shut off work tonight and have girl talk/time with Jess.
7) My dad is coming to spend time with Miller this weekend.
8) Uncle Sean was able to come visit and spend time with Miller.

Even though I am dead tired and stressed out over some work deadlines; it's been a good week leading into a good weekend.

4 Minutes To Spare?

If you have 4 minutes to spare, take a gander at this Miller video. After playing with silverware, eating with silverware and his hands, he resorted to eating out of the bowl. It was hard to refrain from laughing. What a piglet!

In Chicago This Week

I am in Chicago today through Saturday for our summer Curriculum Institute and graduation ceremony. I am still feeling pretty beat down from being sick over the weekend so it's going to be an extra long week up here. The weather was nice today and it's so pretty in the city this time of year.

I am in the hotel across the street from the retreat (overflow) but I kinda like it. The only pain in the butt is not being able to run up to my room or stash stuff quickly. Luckily, Elaine gave me a key to her room so I could use it to leave my computer or purse when not in use.

Time to think about going to sleep. I am tired but just cleaned out my inbox from today's barage of work. Need a few minutes to chill before I actually call it a day.

Rescuing Baby Ducks

Miller was out for a walk with Ryan this morning and a baby duck fell in the drain. Ryan brought Miller in so he could go rescue them. Once he got out there, he decided it was a two person job. I went out to help while Miller supervised from the truck bed. There were 5 baby ducks in there. We rescued them and then I headed back inside.

I must be in the homeward stretch of being sick. The sweat is literally rolling off of me today. I want to just stand in the shower until it ends. This blows. Not what I had planned for the weekend.

102.7 Fever and a Cold

No strep just a really bad fever. Makes me wonder what it was yesterday when I could barely move or see. Back to bed.

Going to Urgent Care

I came home from work at noon yesterday with a fever I couldn't shake. This morning I can barely swallow and my ears hurt. I am guessing it's strep. At 9 am I am off to urgent care to figure out what's wrong and hopefully get some drugs. To make it worse, Miller has been a whiney little brat and his constant tantrums are not helping my ears that already feel like they are bleeding.

I figure I should shower and get the stink off of me. 24 hours of nonstop shivering and sweating makes for one sexy scent.

Spoon Feeding

Miller went to dinner with the bowling crew but was too distracted to eat. When I picked him up, I looked in the cupboard and decided it was baby food (gotta use up those peas and carrots) and some yogurt since he already had chicken strips and french fries at Rosey Baby's. I don't know what posessed me but I handed him the spoon and let him go at it. He ate the bottom half of his carrots and all but a few bites of yogurt. I got some of it on video but haven't figured out how to make it cool like Ryan. I will add that tomorrow.

He did pretty good and it wasn't even too messy. I guess when your baby gets moved to the toddler room they learn new things. LOL! That's right, fat boy moved up to the toddler room this week. No transition. It's exciting but kind of sad.

Tonight when I was putting his pjs on, it felt like he was sassing me and being a little poop because the older kids taught him how to throw a tantrum. I know that's not true but my little angel is now entering the terrible twos! He's going to be trouble.

Egg Head

Yesterday Miller got put in the "thinking chair" at DC for kicking his teacher in the shin and tackling another baby. It wouldn't be so bad if he weren't 3 x's the size of the other kids. Today, there was an opening in the toddler room so they sent him over there for the full day. Supposedly he did really well and they might move him up before the next batch of kids transition. Amen! Poor thing is bored playing with the babies. I don't condone this behavior and he sure as heck wouldn't get away with it at home but it is kinda funny.

Tonight he got home and I was on a conference call. Ryan was trying to keep him quiet. He took off into the bathroom at a faster pace than walking and slipped on the rug and ended up with his head doing a faceplant on the toilet seat. Instant tears, crying, and a purple egg on his forehead above his eye. His eye was also red. I am guessing possible black eye tomorrow. Poor thing. As if that wasnt' bad enough, after I got him out of the bath tonight, he was sitting on his towel and Ryan went to pick him up and he lost his balance. Ummm...repeat of earlier. Same spot, same toilet, new tears.

Good things baby boys are made of rubber and bounce back.

Teething Sucks

Poor Miller is getting in some molars and is not a happy little boy. He had a tough time eating his supper tonight because it was too much for him to gum. Watermelon yogurt resolved that issue. Yes, it's a kids flavored yogurt and has some crazy colors. Tonight was half green and half pink.

After that he was happy and we had a good play time and bath time. He loves to chew on his new tooth brush and even gets a few swipes in across his existing teeth. Ryan had to go back to work so I lucked out with him being in a decent mood considering the pain he's in. He also went straight to bed. Now that I am about to publish, I feel like I am cursing the rest of the night and he will be up a few more times. I hope that's not the case.

Sunny Sunday

Miller slept in until 7:30 this morning which was a heavenly way to start the day. I got up and made the boys breakfast. After that, Miller and I picked up the house, watered plants, swung in his swing (he did, not me), and then he went down for a nice long nap. During that time, I finished cleaning the house and filled a garbage bag full of old clothes for Goodwill.

After Miller woke up and had lunch, we headed to the park. We tried out the newly remodeled one at Welleby by our house. It was nice but Miller wasn't in the mood to play too much. He did have some good swing time and some good rides down the slide that emitted a large smile from his face. It was brutally hot though.

Then we headed to Walmart to drop off the clothes and a quick run to the grocery store. After that he's been a cranky little boy. Hot and tired but not wanting a nap. Ryan finally got him down a little bit ago.

I got a good hours worth of work done so I can be less stressed about going to work tomorrow. I am back to pondering all the things I should have done and need to do now on Sunday nights. That is not the way I like to end my weekends.

I will see how the evening ends. Ryan and I are joint cooking on a new recipe. Skirt steak with chimchurri sauce (no idea how to spell it).

Super Saturday

For Miller, this has been on Super Saturday. First, his car seat was turned around in the car today. With the angle it was at and his sheer size, it was like shoving a square peg into a round hole when trying to get him in and out. I am sure his head and legs were much happier facing forward and sitting up straighter. He can watch the big trucks and interact with us more too. What a character. He tried it out on his way to swimming lessons.

Today there were more kids in his class making up from the holiday weekend. He met a couple hotties (the babies, not the moms) and he was even invited to some lady's house for a play date. She spoke mostly spanish, was wearing a string bikini on a body that should have given up a two piece many years ago, and was to say the least, crazy. She was nice but no play date. Swimming next to her and her kid for 20 minutes does not constitute a home visit.

Then we headed to the park (his second trip in 2 days). He loves to climb and showed us how he can go up and down steps. He even did the slide a few times. If it weren't so darn hot out, it would have been fun to stay longer.

He also decided to get on his rocking chair by himself today, turn around, sit, and rock. It was so darn cute and he was so proud of himself. He's been a terror around the house playing with Annie and water bottles. I can't wait until he's a little bit older and plays with her a little nicer. Right now I don't trust either of them alone together.

I have my dip ready for a "private fashion gathering" tonight at a friends house. It should be fun. Her neighbor makes children clothes. I am pretty sure I won't leave without purchasing something. I am excited to see what she has. Time to get a few chores done and get ready to go. Hopefully tomorrow is a Spectacular Sunday to keep the weekend theme going.

Much Better Wednesday

So far, today has been a much better Wednesday than last Wednesday. No plumbing issues, no major drama at work, just pure uninterrupted work time :) Ahhh...

I am bummed I didn't catch this on video the other night to share with you. We got back from a walk and Miller was all hot so we decided to leave him in his diaper, read him a story, and then put pjs on. He was not going to listen to a story so we put him down and let him harrass the dog.

The two played for a few minutes. They chased each other around the coffee table, they followed each other into the bedroom and back, Annie got down on all fours and was barking while Miller laughed at her and she hopped around Miller to get him to chase her. After a couple minutes I got up to get the video camera and of course, once I hit record, they stopped. I will try to capture it again. Ryan and I have never laughed so hard at the two babies in the house. Maybe next time Jazzy will join in.

Busy Weekend

We had a busy weekend with Miller. He had a makeup swimming lesson Friday, lunch at McDonald's with Grandma Jean, some shopping, lots of play time, the big 4th of July celebration, lunch at Panera (this boy can eat!), and pictures. I tried to scan them in but they didn't turn out very well. Here are the two we picked out. Enjoy!

Work From Home Wednesday-A Bust

Usually I sing the praises of productivity related to my self proclaimed "Work From Home Wednesday." Today, not so much. Here's the recap and it's not even 2pm yet (and I haven't had lunch!).

Nice things...
I was able to lay in bed an extra 15 minutes today. Then get up and get Miller up, fed, clothed, and some play time. I started a load of his laundry.

Not so nice things...
When I went to get dressed I noticed the ceiling in our closet looked wet and moldy. I decided to investigate and yep, the plumbing is leaking. :( I called Ryan and he had to come home and fix it. Since that required shutting off the laundry, I had to rewash the load I started.

On the work front, I had a great list of actionable and completable tasks to do this morning before my meetings kicked in. Well, that got shot to hell before 9:15 because we launched a pilot today that had issues. The worst part is after several hours of intensive investigation, it went right back to what I was preaching 7 weeks ago before we started it. Same problems I identified up front plagued us all the way through. It sucks to be right.

So, now my day is technically over half way over but the reality is it's no where near being over. I can't wait for this long weekend to arrive. Oh and tomorrow, everyone is going to bail early at work but I have back to back calls until 5pm and most are with vendors so I can't cancel them. What a bummer.
