Just Do It

I followed the Nike slogan today and Just Did It. I had looked forward to running today until I woke up pre-4am and couldn't get back to sleep. When I finally got up, I had high hopes it was still raining. Nope, instead it was hot and muggy. My goal for increasing my distance today fell short. I only made it 1.1 miles. Pathetic but at least I did it. 1 mile is better than no mile.

Weekend Activities

The weekend was jam packed with things going on. Saturday, Ryan hung more guitars in the guest bedroom/my office. Guess I may have to buy him one more that I really like looking at since they sit right above my monitor!

After he got that chore done I cleaned myself up, picked up Norah and Jess, and headed to the Nilsen Twin's baby shower. It was a nice event (no games!). The ladies were fun to catch up with, the food was great, and the gifts were bountiful and so darn cute. There is just something about baby shower gifts that make you oh and ah. Add in two sets of everything and you get the double ah factor.

Saturday evening Jon came over to play with the kids, provide me some adult talk, and had dinner. I don't know who had more fun, Jon or the kids. My goodness, he shot Miller with a potato gun, played Star Wars, read books, you name it. Ryan and I sat back and enjoyed watching someone else run around with the kids. Thanks Uncle Jon!

Sunday was supposed to be a race day for Ryan and a birthday party in the afternoon for Miller. The day went partially as planned. Miller caught a bug and threw up in the morning while brushing his teeth. So instead of him going with Ryan and Mason for an hour, he stayed home with me. We decided it might be a quick puke and go type thing so we got ready and picked Mason up at the track and then headed to Target to get a birthday present.

Miller survived shopping but I could tell he wasn't 100%. We got home, wrapped the present. He made a card and then we picked up lunch to have a "picnic" at the track. Ryan was too busy racing to eat with us but the boys ate well and had fun. Mason thought he was big man on campus. He sat in a big boy chair while Miller sat in the little boy one.

By the time we got home, Miller was back in the bathroom. I kept telling him there was a chance he could go to the party but I knew he wouldn't be going. As he was looking pathetic on the toilet he mumbled about how he probably shouldn't go to the party. I told him we would see after he had a nap.

I am pretty sure you can guess that we didn't go to the party. Miller was so sad about it and kept whimpering about trying to go. Poor dude. He rested a little more, drank a ton of water and gatorade and by 6:30, was on the mend. He and Mason were running around outside and in the pool. It was like night and day with him once he felt better.

As for me, I only got a few things done I wanted to this weekend. I transplanted some of the tiny seedlings we sprouted from last weekend. The rest I am going to give another week to get a little bigger. Not sure what the ones are that grew. Hopefully I can keep them alive.

I had enough germ exposure over the weekend that I decided going to bed extra early last night was probably the best use of my time. An 8:30pm bedtime was sweet! I felt well rested and got a short run in this morning before the rain started. I am slowly increasing my distance (to avoid injury and hatred of running) and proud to keep my sub 9 minute mile pace alive. Guess I didn't totally lose what I had built up.

I should probably get some work done. We are super busy and my list of to do's that I wrote on Friday was a legal notebook page long. More came in over the weekend. Sigh. At least job security is never a question for me. LOL!

Back At It

After my hiatus with running, I laced up my shoes and hit the pavement. I think I will have another good "streak" of running ahead of me. I haven't had any leg, knee or ankle pain for a couple months. I also "wanted" to run today which made it feel better and less like exercise. I only logged a short mile but it was my best time yet. I can't complain there.

I figure I will work my way back up in distance over the next few weeks. No rush other than if I am making the effort to run and getting this sweaty, it should be further distance/longer time. I need to look into some other training plan or goal to keep me motivated. Any good ideas?

On the kid front, both kids are growing. I can't imagine what our grocery bill will be in a few more years. They eat like little pigs. Miller counted to 50 the other night with only 1 or 2 reminders on a number or two. I don't know if that is impressive for his age but I was impressed. He's working on tying his shoes. He understands it, just struggles with the loop pulling. He enjoys writing words but no real interest in actually reading yet. He asks a lot about what words say and we sound them out. I figure the reading desire will follow.

Mason is, well, Mason. He's funny, he's a hand full, and right now, he's a parrot. He loves to repeat any word you say. He's into his Thomas the Train stuff and obsessed with bubbles. He melts down if he can't blow them in the porch for Annie. Those are the strict requirements for bubble blowing at our house. Don't offer to help, don't leave Annie inside. The world will stop otherwise.

Work remains busy which is a good thing but I am trying to get back to less "working" hours. It's been too much for too long. I am feeling the burn...I did get a new work computer though. It's pretty sweet. I am in a definite learning curve. Windows 8...love it, hate it, will learn it.

Speaking of work, it's going to be a 12+ hour day. I should probably get in the shower and go to the office. I am moderating a class tonight and with the new equipment and an internet hiccup during the one last week; I better stay at the office and hope their internet stays nice and strong.
