M & M Checkups

Here's another shout out to all the single parents...I don't know how you do it but God bless you!

We took the boys to the pediatrician for their checkups yesterday. Overall the kids were ok but having two adults to hold, wrangle, reason, listen, answer, and basically try to keep the kids from going completely bonkers at the doctor's office started my day off with an extra level of "oh my goodness, it's not even 10am!" feeling.

I don't think it helped matters with the nurse we had. She was not the good one and honestly, the last few times has seemed pissed off. I usually try to give people the benefit of maybe she was having a bad day but repeated visits point toward it just being her personality and disposition.

Miller was good until the nurse gave him a shot and drew blood with a finger prick. You would have thought the world was ending. After that, having him sit still and listen was not going to happen. He was good for the actual doctor and nurse but not a very good listener when he needed to sit down and be quiet during Mason's turn.

Mason did about the same. Cried for a brief second after his toe prick and after his shot. Otherwise he was just the normal Buddha baby.

Official stats (didn't have percentages, kids were too wild to hear them).

Miller 4 year old:
Height: 44 1/2 inches
Weight: 42 lbs

*The doctor did mention he was the size of the average 5 1/2 year old...

Mason 9 months old:
Height: 30 inches
Weight: 25 lbs 10 oz

He is in the 94th percentile for something but as I mentioned, it was too chaotic to get a repeat on that info.

The other weird part of our visit is we asked about going to a new practice closer to home and daycare. That took the doctor by surprise. He only had one name off the top of his head so that search now begins. The good news is he combined the 8 month and 10 month appointment for Mason so we don't have to go back until his 1 year old appointment. It may or may not be with them. For non-emergencies, I don't mind driving down there but for sickness and urgent items, I really need a doctor that's closer. Any Coral Spring recommendations?

You're lucky you go with the 2-2 ratio! As often as he can, Jerry attends appointments with me, but there have been MANY in the past year that he can't do (and that's understandable, between PT, head specialists, and now allergy specialists, plus the regular ole dr, Caleb has had his share of visits!), and wrangling 2, alone, and trying to talk/listen to the dr. is a major pain.

Depending on the nurse, sometimes they write down the % along with the stats. But, if you had a stinky nurse, then I doubt she was nice like that.

Plantation is pretty far for you for the dr, but I have no clue what drs are in CS; there has to be plenty, though.

We go on Friday for Caleb's 1 year check up, and I'm guess he's at least 3 lbs smaller than Mason! Maybe the same height. We'll see.
